The Beach Clean Up at PeninsulaPark was not only environmentally informative, it promoted water-sports too. Along with a paddle board race, there were other competitions and promotions. Tents with various campaigns were set up including the Surfrider Foundation. Hawaiian music entertained us. Polynesian dancers enchanted us. Several groups settled on the green grass of the park with their children and dogs to socialize.
Newport Beach Boat Show
The Newport Beach Boat Show was held on the west side of the bay, next to LidoVillage, between Lido Isle and the beginning of BalboaPeninsula. Boats of every size and shape were represented and for sale. From Duffield's Electric Cocktail Cruisers (Duffy's) to yachts, the Newport Beach Boat Show had something for everyone. And a great place for kayakers to paddle around and admire how the other half lives!
The Sea Lions at the Entrance to NewportHarbor
What is an ocean kayak adventure in California without Sea Lions! This is on the buoy at the entrance to NewportHarbor. Whether you are paddling out to the ocean from the bay, or coming around the jetty from the ocean to the bay, you can always count on these guys to be doing nothing but hanging around. There is one big bull that dominates the buoy. To be honest, they scare me to death! I think it’s a good idea to keep your distance from them. Ya think?
The Balboa Ferry
Okay, so it's not a watersport. It is a landmark here in Balboa and it does float on the water. It is also a challenge to time it just right so that you don't get run over in your kayak by the skipper of an Auto Ferry. There are three ferries that transport three cars at a time to and from the peninsula and BalboaIsland. They are the Admiral, the Captain, and the Commodore.
Balboa Pier
The Balboa Pier is located just slightly to the east from KayakGirl.com. It is the second pier in Newport Beach. The first pier is the Newport Pier, located 1 1/2 miles to the west.
The Lido Sailing Club
I just love this little sailing club. I think it is so picturesque. What else can I say? I think the picture says it all.
